Terms of use
Last updated 16 September 2026.
The short version
You must be an adult, and the parent or legal guardian of any student you add. What HiMwalimu shows you about careers is a set of possibilities to explore together — never a prediction about who your child will become, and never a substitute for advice from a teacher or counsellor.
Who may use HiMwalimu
You must be at least 18 years old and legally able to enter into this agreement. You may only add a student if you are that student's parent or legal guardian, and you confirm this when you add them.
Students do not have accounts and cannot sign in. Do not share your password with your student or with anyone else — your account gives access to your student's records.
What the service does, and what it does not
HiMwalimu analyses the assessment results you record and shows you subject strengths, weaknesses and trends, improvement plans, and career fields worth exploring.
Career suggestions are exploratory, not predictive.
Every suggestion is framed as a possibility worth exploring, with the evidence behind it and a stated confidence level. Nothing here is a claim about what your child should become, what they are capable of, or what they will achieve. Where our information is thin, we say so rather than guess — and you will often see a suggestion marked as based on limited information.
It is not professional advice. It does not replace a teacher, school counsellor, careers adviser, psychologist, or any assessment used for admission or placement. Decisions about your child's education remain yours.
It is not a school record. What you record here has no official standing, is not shared with any school or examination body, and should not be treated as a transcript.
Where our facts come from
Curriculum structures, subject lists and career requirements come from verified reference data with recorded sources — they are not generated or guessed. Where we have not yet verified a fact, we leave it out rather than fill the gap.
The analysis of your student's results is calculated arithmetically from what you entered. No artificial intelligence writes any of the curriculum or career facts in this service.
Reference data can still be incomplete or become out of date — curricula and entry requirements change. If you spot something wrong, please tell us at lighttreepeople@gmail.com.
Your responsibilities
- Give accurate information, and keep your password to yourself.
- Only add students you are the parent or legal guardian of.
- Do not attempt to access another guardian's account or student.
- Do not use automated tools to extract data from the service or to place unreasonable load on it.
- Do not use the service to do anything unlawful, or anything harmful to a child.
We limit how frequently records can be written, to keep the service available for everyone. If you see a message about too many requests, wait a minute and try again.
Your information, and ending your use
How we handle information is set out in our privacy notice. In short: you can read everything we hold about your student, correct it, withdraw consent, and delete your student's record or your entire account yourself, at any time, from within the app.
Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. A copy may remain in an encrypted database backup until that backup expires; we cannot selectively erase a record from a historical backup.
We may suspend or end access to an account that breaches these terms, or where we believe a child is at risk.
Availability
The service is provided as it is, without any promise of uninterrupted availability. We do not guarantee that it will always be reachable, that it will be free of errors, or that recorded information will never be lost. Keep your own copy of anything you cannot afford to lose — your child's original school reports are the authoritative record, not this service.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for decisions made on the basis of what this service shows you, for any loss of data, or for any indirect or consequential loss. Nothing in these terms limits liability that cannot lawfully be limited — including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
Changes, and the law that applies
We may update these terms. If a change materially affects you, we will update the date above and, where the law requires, ask for your agreement again.
These terms are governed by the laws of Kenya, and the courts of Kenya have jurisdiction over any dispute arising from them.
Contact
Questions about these terms, or a concern about a child's safety, should go to lighttreepeople@gmail.com. Safety concerns are prioritised.
